Digital Government Africa Summit to Address National Digital Identity Implementation
Zambia will next week host the 2025 Digital Government Africa (DGA) Summit, scheduled for October 7–9 in Lusaka, which will attract over 500 delegates, including Ministers and senior government officials from 30 African countries. The event firmly positions Zambia as a regional leader in digital governance and e-government cooperation.
The summit will bring together policymakers, technologists, investors, and private sector innovators to accelerate digital transformation across Africa.
Key Issues and Highlights
National Digital Identity
The Summit will focus on digital identity implementation, e-participation, authentication, and infrastructure development.
Zambia’s rollout of the Integrated National Registration Information System (INRIS) will streamline access to essential services including healthcare, education, agriculture subsidies, and social welfare.
Online Service Delivery
The Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security, working with Smart Zambia, will soon introduce online passport applications.
Government’s vision is for every citizen to have a single digital identity, making public services accessible with just a click.
Data Protection and Privacy
Measures are being implemented to safeguard citizens’ data and strengthen trust in digital systems.
Regional Hub for Innovation
Acting Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Elvis Nkandu, emphasized Zambia’s ambition to become a regional hub for digital innovation, governance, and entrepreneurship.
The summit provides a platform to showcase Zambia’s progress in building a smart, inclusive, and innovative economy.
Global Partnerships
The event will feature participation from global technology leaders, including Microsoft, Visa, and Thales, alongside African innovators and entrepreneurs.
According to African Brains CEO, Mr. John Glassey, the summit is a meetings-based platform, enabling direct engagement between governments and investors, rather than a traditional conference.
Continental and Global Alignment
The summit, now in its third edition, originates from a 2021 Cabinet decision to position Zambia at the forefront of digital governance.
The initiative aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which envisions a digitally integrated continent.
Leadership Recognition
National e-Government Coordinator, Mr. Percy Chinyama, stated that convening such a summit demonstrates Zambia’s continental leadership in digital transformation.
The event will be officially opened by President Hakainde Hichilema on October 7, 2025.
In Summary:
The 2025 Digital Government Africa Summit will address critical areas of digital identity, data protection, online services, and digital innovation, reinforcing Zambia’s leadership in regional e-governance while fostering public-private partnerships for Africa’s digital future.
